I’m sure most vapers must have experienced vaping their favorite e-liquids then all of a sudden they can’t taste a thing …. Or worse all of a sudden you feel your tongue’s gone numb? That is what is known as the vaper’s tongue. It is also known as vaper’s fatigue and it occurs when you can barely taste your e-juice flavor.
There are several reasons why you can find a difference in the flavor of your vape juice, but let’s go to the analogy of smell, and how that may weaken your e-juice taste capacity. Taste fatigue or Palate fatigue or flavor fatigue is when the e-juice taste gets decreased after constant exposure. It’s the same idea when smokers aren’t able to smell the smoke on their clothing because they are used to it. Your brain is like a machine, and your sensory receptors send signals to your brain when you taste the food so that you can detect the flavor. However, the brain adapts to this stimulus after repeated exposure of the same taste or scent which will decrease the strength of the odor or taste over time.
Whatever you call it, vape tongue is not a fun situation to find yourself in. However, there several possible reasons why you may be experiencing a loss of flavor in your e-liquid, and if you can determine which one applies to you, then you’ll probably be able to fix the issue pretty easily.
E-Liquid Quality: The e-liquid quality and rating can be a contributing factor to getting the vaper’s tongue. Many vapers tend to go for low-quality, low-cost vape juices to save money. If you tap a lot but don’t want to go broke because of your hobby this is understandable. But I strongly recommend however that you avoid doing this and instead opt for high-quality e-liquids. That’s because many cheap vape juices overpower their flavors with artificial sweeteners that are too sugary to enhance the taste. The problem is that these potent sweetening agents appear to kill the taste buds, making vapers tongue much more likely to occur.
Dehydration: The process of vaping can be dehydrating if you aren’t a regular water drinker. The solutions in e-liquid (PG or VG) attract and draw out moisture like a sponge, which means not drinking enough water while vaping can dry out your mouth. Besides, a thin film might form on your tongue, acting as a shield that blocks flavored e-liquid from reaching your taste buds.
It is, therefore, necessary to drinks lots of water during, after, or in between vaping.
Chain vaping: If you’re in the habit of chain-vaping, give your senses a break by spacing out your vape sessions. Constantly using your vape can impact your smell and flavor receptors. To satisfy your need for nicotine, you can use vape juice that contains a higher level of the substance and space out how frequently you pull out your unit. Even if you don’t want to up your nicotine level, it’s still important to give your body a longer break between vaping.
